It is hard to believe that since our last post so many things have happened to us. We had a hurricane called Sandy that brought down trees and flooded many of our streets and houses and left all 20 of us, including our teacher in the dark.

In addition, we had a snowstorm which closed our schools, made driving dangerous, and turned off power again. Some of us are still without power and are living with friends and relatives. Nine of us were lucky since we had generators and could keep the power and heat going in our homes. We know that we will never forget the fall of 2012!

We know and read that many schools in Long Island are still closed, and many people are still without power, heat and even food. Room 11 has been thinking of ways we can help.
We encourage those that read our blog to give us suggestions. We consider ourselves lucky to all be safe and want to show our gratitude by helping others.
In addition, we will be posting what we did when the power went off, how we felt, and what decisions our families had to make. We also encourage you to do the same by posting comments. We also want to thank all of you that commented on our first post. :)
We are so happy that we are back to school and can again feel safe!
Our heart reaches out to everyone who has had severe damage due to Sandy. For us, we did not have power for 10 days; and stayed in a hotel for the night of the Noreaster. It has been quite an experience. No power, no heat, no warm water. We lit candles at night and turned on the fire to keep us warm. It was like camping!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Mrs. Kalish's Class,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for writing this important blog post about Sandy! This was a horrible storm that devastated most of New York City, Long Island and New Jersey. I am relieved that no one was hurt in our community and happy that most people have power back. My family and I stayed safe during the whole storm and we did not lose power. But, our neighborhood was hit pretty hard so we donated clothes and baby items to help those in need. I hope we can work together to continue to help those who lost a lot during the storm!
Keep up the great work and writing!
Sincerely,
Mr. Sinanis
You have done a good job by posting a blog about Sandy. We feel sorry for those who have been affected by Sandy. As most of our neighbors, we did not have power for 7 days. We decided to send our kids to our brother's house. They stayed there for 6 days without us. We were warming us up by turning on the fireplace and sleeping next to it. We need to donate either money or the things that they need to help them out.
