November

It is hard to believe that since our last post so many things have happened to us.  We had a hurricane called Sandy that brought down trees and flooded many of our streets and houses and left all 20 of us, including our teacher in the dark.

In addition, we had a snowstorm which closed our schools, made driving dangerous, and turned off power again.  Some of us are still without power and are living with friends and relatives.  Nine of us were lucky since we had generators and could keep the power and heat going in our homes. We know that we will never forget the fall of 2012!

We know and read that many schools in Long Island are still closed, and many people are still without power, heat and even food. Room 11 has been thinking of ways we can help.
We encourage those that read our blog to give us suggestions.  We consider ourselves lucky to all be safe and want to show our gratitude by helping others.
In addition, we will be posting what we did when the power went off, how we felt, and what decisions our families had to make. We also encourage you to do the same by posting comments. We also want to thank all of you that commented on our first post. :)
We are so happy that we are back to school and can again feel safe!

Our First Post

Welcome to Room #11's Ultimate Blog

Room 11
WOW! Welcome to our first blog. We are so excited to share our class blog with our friends and family. Room 11 learned about blogging by reading other classroom blogs and by watching a "Brain Pop" video. First, we voted
on the name to call our blog, and next we brainstormed and shared ideas about what we would like to include in our blog.  Our class finally decided to create something we thought would be not only interesting,  but would require feedback and comments. We are happy to finally launch our blog and can't wait to hear your reactions! Please visit us often.

 WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

Working with manipulatives

Math In Focus
Matthew G., Tarra, Sabrina, Noah

Our first "Scientist of the Week"
We are learning many things in our classroom this year. In math, we started a new math program and are learning addition and subtraction with regrouping. Pretty challenging! In science we learned about how much sugar is in cereal and that the hidden ingredient in cereal is air.  We also weighed cheerios, wheat chex, puffed rice and corn flakes. What cereal do you think is the heaviest?  In addition, we had our first "Scientist of the Week."  What fun!  Our day is so filled up with learning that our brains are expanding at such a rapid rate.  That is a good thing.
What have you learned so far this year in school?
